Xavier Roy’s life has long been punctuated by travel, both in his professional activity, as Reed Midem Organisation CEO, and in his private life, for holidays.
Since he acquired his first camera in 1977, he has taken snapshots from one continent to another. His photography, one of the keys to his personality and professional life, expresses the more intimate side of his enjoyment of meetings and exchanges, and his keen interest and curiosity about cultural differences and blends.
With attentive sensitivity, and an always respectful eye, he leaves room enough for his subjects to assert their identity. An old Cuban man behind his window bars, a splendid girl from Trinidad smiling in a doorway, Ecuadorian schoolgirls in front of their small piles of maize seeds... Each person, each face is perceived and rendered with its own special ambience.
Musée de la Castre, with its collections of artifacts, masks and ornaments from all over the world, as well as musical instruments from Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania, provides an ideal setting for Xavier Roy’s first exhibition of photographs.
